NCERT Syllabus: National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) has decided to modify the syllabus of class 3 and class 6 textbooks. The new syllabus will be implemented from the academic session 2024-25. It has been clarified that only the syllabus of these two classes will be changed, while the syllabus of other classes will remain unchanged. Schools have been notified about this change through a letter.

Online syllabus distribution: CBSE Board Director Joseph Emmanuel has recommended schools to switch to new textbooks for classes 3 and 6 instead of using old books. CBSE will also conduct capacity building programs for school principals and teachers to familiarize them with the objectives of the new education policy 2020.

Previous changes in syllabus: NCERT had previously revised the syllabus in 2022 during the Covid 19 pandemic to reduce the burden on students. In 2023, subjects like Mughal rulers, 2002 Gujarat riots, Cold War, and Emergency were removed from the syllabus. Changes have been made in the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) in 1975, 1988, 2000, and 2005 as well.

Reasons for syllabus change: SCERT states that changes in the syllabus are necessary to align with the New Education Policy 2020 and introduce students to the new education system. Schools will focus on multilingualism, art, experimental education, and other aspects to enhance students’ skills and awareness, providing them with a modern education.
